On Thursday 09 April 2026, the President of WP Squash issued this statement:
The WPS board met on Tuesday 7th to talk about Junior squash as some of the board have not been involved in the long and arduous process that has brought us to here.
It has been completely unanimous that we are at an impasse on the critical matter of the constitution and creation of a WPJS committee / board .
The board has mandated some action.
1. Adoption of a constitution based on @Kelley Moult ans her proposal
2. Ratification of this by majority vote by Wednesday 15 April (circulation of same here later today and a poll to this group)
3. AGM notice to go out soon thereafter for a date of 30 April
We do thank those who have been working on governance for their work todate but the decision above stands
Happy to take calls to discuss
Have a super day
Graham Jeffery
This is not a neutral update — it’s an executive decision being pushed through quickly.
It is a power move to close the process down, not a neutral step forward.
WP Squash are framing our current position as an impasse to justify their action. They have moved from discussion to imposition by choosing a model that suits them, they are trying to legitimize it by talking about a 'majority vote' and they are attempting to lock it in structurally by calling an AGM.
This is an attempt to close down the governance question without sharing all the facts or giving people a chance to decide.
This is a speed play i.e it compress the timeline, reduces scrutiny & secures the outcome by reframing the process from “choose the best model” to “approve this model quickly”.
It lacks transparency, inclusivity, and a proper consideration of alternatives, It will result in a constitution that lacks objective comparison.
It is a rubber stamp, not a genuine choice.
This is the story of what really happened and why we are in this position & a suitable way forward.
The Governance sub committee, brought into existence at the behest of WP Squash and mandated with building a constitution for junior squash, is NOT at an impasse.
The sub committee spent weeks thinking about a governance structure that would be accountable, transparent, have a balance of power, and be proportional.
Ensuring parents had a vote and separating governance & operations resulted in the model above) above
(click for the full version).
The planning group did not like this as it removed the status quo. Another person was added to the sub committee which resulted in Model B.
We were delighted. We had two models and the constituency (you) would be able to democratically chose which model offered the best chance of success.
This choice has now been taken away from you and when the AGM ratifies the constitution, Model A will not be discussed because WP Squash prefers Model B.
We are not fighting for a particular outcome, we are defending the legitimacy of the decision-making process...
